A goal-setting starter

Your Next 12 Weeks

You've seen your two wheels. Now let's turn them into goals, in your life and your business, and take the first step on each.

Don't think in years. Think in the next twelve weeks. For each area, write what you'd love, and one thing you'll do about it. You don't have to fill every box, so start with the areas that scored lowest on your wheel. That's where the momentum is.

The twelve-week idea isn't mine. It's from The Twelve Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington, a book that changed everything for me years ago. This is my simple take on it.

Now make it real

You can't sprint at everything

A goal for every area is the map. But you can't chase all fourteen at once, that's the road back to busy. So pick what matters most for the next twelve weeks, and break it right down to today.

1

Your focus for these 12 weeks

Pick the one or two areas, from either wheel, that would change the most if you moved them. Your lowest scores are a good clue.

2

The one thing

What is the one thing that, if you achieve it in the next twelve weeks, moves everything else forward?

3

Walk it down to today

This month

What has to happen this month to be on track?

This week

What's the focus for the next seven days?

Today's needle-mover

The one small action you can do today. Then again tomorrow.

4

Your needle-movers

Three to five specific actions that get you there. Habit-stack where you can, attach them to things you already do.

Now put them in your diary. A goal with no time blocked is just a wish.

That's the whole method. Set a goal for each area, pick your focus, break it down, and protect the time. Twelve weeks at a time, you stop being busy and start actually living.
